Yesterday we finished the walls of the kitchen round at Venerable Kunga's retreat site.
The walls took approximately 200 person hours to complete, which for us was approximately 14 working days for 3 people, working ~4.5 hours each day. We started on February 17 and finished on March 22. So, if you are curious how long it might take you to build your own earth bag round, this can give you an idea. We are using Cal-Earth's small bag, that tamps to 12," pre-mixed dirt that we order from an adobe yard, and mixing it with a Bobcat, so it is about the fastest earthbagging is going to get, I imagine. The building is 14 feet in diameter, with one end chopped off so it looks like a 3/4 moon.
Our tamper broke on the last day of bagging, kind of like when your mala breaks after a really powerful round of mantra. Luckily Dennis happened to be walking by with another tamper at that very moment.
Thanks to everyone who helped, and especially to Viet, Cortney, Geoff, Della and of course, Keith, our fearless guide.
