Each day I arrive at my cabin I get this feeling of amazement... amazed that I have built a cabin on the top of a hill in the middle of nowhere. Amazed that I managed to build a cabin when the biggest thing I built before this was a skateboard ramp when I was 15. Amazed even that I got the materials to the site.
I really built a cabin!
Or did I really build a cabin? When I reflect there is not much that I was able to do by myself. Bert did the plans and together we did the framing. Jeff put in the road. Jarret the electrical. David the gas and water. Matt and John EO the freakin drywall. Jarret the floor. Bert the plaster. I bunch of people helped with the stucco. Same with the shingles... on and on and on.
I am amazed at what is going on at DM right now. 25 or so cabins being built. People helping each other, sharing tools, sharing equipment, working late, working hard. I dont think it will ever be like this again. The amount of building going on right now is phenomenal - especially when you look at the relatively small number of people pulling it off.
It feels epic to try to pull off what we are attempting.
I feel very fortunate to be a part of it all.
